If I asked you what skills we need to focus on in little league when it’s their first time playing baseball after tball, you would expect to hear throwing, catching, hitting and positions. We did all this with a primary focus on coverage. Why? Because the point of the game is to end the other team’s attempt to score. The reality is the throwing, catching and hitting competencies at this level can be demoralizing in a game setting. So we shifted focus from the individual to the team. We all shifted to have one person behind the intended person the play was directed to. If the throw was wild or the catch fumbled, the person covering was able to help recover and end the play quickly. The confidence of the team grew such that their individual skills improved more quickly. Why? Because we focused on recovery, feeling safe even when we failed by design. These kids celebrated hard when they pulled off a triple play, do you think they remembered how it looked or how it felt? Moving forward doesn’t always look the way we think it should. Moving forward is simply moving forward and it doesn’t matter how it looks, as long as nobody gets left behind.
This fall my goal is to double voter turnout, which would be 22k people voting in Airdrie this October. Democracy requires an engaged population and voting is only the beginning. My website will feature all candidates for mayoral, council and school trustees so people have an easier time becoming educated voters. I cannot control who you vote for, so frankly I’ll create engagement and let the chips fall where they may. That being said I do humbly ask for your vote to be your mayor in Airdrie this October. #artofenough #lindseycoyle4mayor #voteairdrie
