My kids were actively campaigning with me 4 years ago at 6&8years old. I ran for council in 2017 with 22 other candidates and came in 9th at the polls and only the top 6 made it to council. Not bad for my first try. It’s 4 years later and I am a mayor candidate for this fall’s election in Airdrie. These two have watched me fall, get up and try again, more times than I’d like to admit. I choose to close my 3 year old business this past winter. It was a positive experience, I learnt a lot about business and myself. My kids have empathetically known it was hard and their hugs of encouragement meant so much in those moments. While I work on the tasks to officially announce, I decided to start letting it be known.
My vision for Airdrie is to have a democracy that works, to double our voter turnout to 22k this October and raise our engagement beyond the election. Let’s get real, voting is the bare minimum of a functioning democratic society. The politicians must be engaged to expect engagement and I learn to share and meet people where they are at. I recognize that the people of Airdrie are big, so I’ll lead myself with integrity, follow the people to serve and stand for making life work better in Airdrie. #artofenough #communityconnector #lindseycoyle4mayor
